Blog Talk Radio is Making Changes

In February 2011 Blog Talk Radio is going to change their membership policies, which could affect Page Readers.

I've been hosting Page Readers at Blog Talk Radio since March 2008.  I've always used their free membership and have a wonderful experience with the service.  Because I don't charge authors for being on the show or blog, the free membership at BTR worked for me.

They do offer a Revenue Sharing option, but to be honest, that isn't going to make me rich, or even pay a bill or two.  Even though Page Readers is averaging 1,000+ listens per month the Revenue Sharing option nets me about $1.00 a month.  And since their payout threshold is $25.00... you can see paychecks from BTR are few and far between.

So now they're telling me and all the other free members of the site that in order to continue using their service as is, we'll have to start paying for it.  They are putting restrictions on the free membership:  One show a day, no shows during "Prime Time," and no Private Episodes.  

I will keep you all posted on this development.  I don't think this will change the way I host Page Readers, as I can't imagine that noon on a weekday is "Prime Time," one show a day works for me, and I'm pretty sure I'm not hosting "Private Episodes," since all my shows are open to the public.  We'll see.

In the meantime, I'm open to change.  If any of you have a suggestion or use a different way to create your own podcasts, let me know.  I have added other ways for authors to appear on and be promoted by Page Readers but I definitely want to continue offering live/recorded interviews because that really is the fun part of the work I do here.

Arthur Torsone discusses "Herb Trader" on Page Readers

Marijuana smuggler turned author, Arthur Torsone visited Page Readers to discuss his book "Herb Trader."

"Herb Trader" is the true life story of Arthur Torsone, a self-described "regular guy" who finds himself caught up in the illegal global market of marijuana smuggling. 

Brought into the underworld by what he considered to be an opportunity of a lifetime - a way to make a lot of money in a short period of time - one pay day and he was hooked. 

Arthur spent the next several years traveling to isolated corners of the planet, dealing with people he couldn't trust, living in conditions that were far below a 5 star rating.  His story will open your eyes to the gritty reality of drug trafficking.

It wasn't until after he had retired from the business when he was drawn back into it by people he had trusted for years when the real trouble started.  Caught in a cat and mouse game, being used as a pawn in a game between the super-powers of the world, Art was kidnapped and help prisoner in a Cambodian prison. 

After months of captivity, he was released only to be kidnapped again just hours later.  It was then that Art decided it was time to begin writing his story, if only for his daughters to know what became of their father.

Lyrical Press Authors on Page Readers

March was definitely a month full of Science Fiction and Horror for Page Readers.

This month was full of authors from Lyrical Press, most of them focusing on science fiction tales or vampires.

Page Readers keeps growing!

2010 has started off with a Bang! It all started when I met author Lori Titus, who writes GREAT Science Fiction. After her interview on Page Readers, she shared the show with all of her author friends who started asking to be on the show. I went from doing 2-3 interviews a month to doing 13 in February. By the end of March I will have done 15 shows and April is filling up fast.

Getting to know all of these wonderfully talented authors has been such a pleasure. They are all interesting people with imaginations that take us along for the ride through their stories. And without Page Readers, I would have not met any of them or read their books.

Which is the purpose of Page Readers. To give the unknown, up and coming author a chance to share their stories with more people!

Help Page Readers spread the word about these incredibly talented authors. Become a follower of this blog and a fan of the show at Blog Talk Radio. At the Page Readers show page, use the share tools provided by Blog Talk Radio to share the show via Twitter, Facebook, email and a host of other social media links.

And, something new I've added to help promote my guests. I've begun writing Lens/Articles on Squidoo to share the authors work, the show and links to everything. Squidoo also provides social media share tools, so please share! You can "Tweet" it, post it to Facebook, rate the article and leave comments. Doing so not only promotes the article and the show, it helps my guests gain more exposure for their work.

Page Readers is Moving

OK, so I've given Word Press a try, for almost a year now. It's just as user friendly to me as I need it to be, so I'm coming back over to blogger.

I know I could get some flak over this, from my friends who think WP is "the best". But those friends are probably a little more techie than I am, and honestly, I just don't have the desire to get into the techie stuff.

So, we're moving it all back over to here.

And, of course, everything will still be available on the Blog Talk Radio show page, which is nice.

Thanks to everyone, all of my guests and friends, who have made the show fun. I've grown a bit of a following, with shows now hitting into the 100's on their listen counts. Very nice!
